About The Institute

The Eliette and Herbert von Karajan Institute was founded by Eliette von Karajan.  Its mission as a cultural institution is the maintenance of the musical legacy of Herbert von Karajan.

Founded in 2005 in Salzburg, the institute is the successor of the Herbert von Karajan Center, which opened in 1995 in Vienna.
Upon the wish of Eliette von Karajan, in November 2006 the Karajan Centrum and the connected Karajan archives were moved to
Salzburg, the birthplace and hometown of the great conductor.
